Design downtown’s parking garage

January 5th, 2009, 12:49 pm · 2 Comments · posted by Blake Herzog

Gilbert residents are invited to participate in a charrette, which is a sort of roundtable design discussion among stakeholders, to help design the parking structure planned to be built just west of Gilbert Road on Ash Street, to serve the Heritage District. The garage is slated to be four stories tall and hold about 350 vehicles, and will be surrounded by landscaping.

The meeting will begin 6 p.m.  Wednesday at the Heritage Annex building at 119 N. Gilbert Road. People planning to attend should contact Helga Stafford at (480) 503-6767 or helgas@ci.gilbert.az.us.

Maybe the city could just sell a choice piece of real estate to the mayor’s brother for 1 dollar, let him build the garage, and then rent spaces for city vehicles at a premium price. Ah forget it, it’s already been done!

I suggest ramps so drivers can get their vehicles to the other floors easily, and painted lines so drivers will park in an orderly manner.

    It’s a parking garage!!

Hint: When the Town of Gilbert announces plans to have a Parking Garage naming contest, include the word “Heritage” in your submission. You’re sure to be one of the finalists.
